Medical Malpractice Case in Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Harty v. Sanford Clinic, et al.

Robins Kaplan medical malpractice attorneys secured a $2.5 million jury verdict in a wrongful death lawsuit against Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 2019, our client’s wife, Anna Harty experienced fatigue and new shortness of breath with activity, the most common symptom of blood clots in the lungs. To ensure everything was okay, she saw her long-time primary care doctor. Anna died in the emergency room four days later.

During her scheduled appointment, her doctor failed to recognize that Anna’s age, obesity, and taking estrogen-containing birth control increased her risk for blood clots. Her doctor chose not to order the D-dimer blood test, which can rule out a blood clot. Anna was 42 years old and is survived by her husband and three young children.
