Reached Global, Cost-of-Defense Settlements for Norwegian Salmon Distributor and Producer in Nationwide Antitrust Class Action

In re Farm-Raised Salmon & Salmon Prods. Antitrust Litigation

Robins Kaplan reached global, cost-of-defense settlements on behalf of a Norwegian salmon sales and distribution company in two separate putative class actions that alleged a global price-fixing conspiracy among sellers of Norwegian farmed Atlantic salmon. According to the Plaintiffs’ complaints, tens of billions of dollars of Atlantic Salmon were imported into the United States during the class period. 

In September of 2022, a class action settlement was granted final approval, resolving claims that Robins Kaplan’s client, Sjór AS, and five other sellers of farmed Atlantic salmon, conspired to elevate the price of farmed salmon to direct purchasers in the United States. A second settlement was granted final approval in February of 2023 to resolve claims that the defendants elevated the price of salmon to indirect purchasers.

The cases were venued in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, with co-pending investigations in Europe and similar class actions in Canada.
