Steve Schumeister And Chris Messerly Selected to Receive 2023 Minnesota ICON Award
October 18, 2023
Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that Steve Schumeister and Chris Messerly have been selected to receive the 2023 Minnesota ICON award by Finance & Commerce and Minnesota Lawyer. The award recognizes attorneys or business leaders who have exhibited distinctive excellence that puts them at the top of Minnesota’s legal and business communities.
For over 25 years, Schumeister has served as the firm’s managing partner. Throughout his distinguished career, he has taken on leadership roles steering philanthropic and legal efforts in Minnesota centered on access to justice for those in need. He serves as a director and past chair of the Fund for Legal Aid and heads the Robins Kaplan LLP private foundation. Schumeister previously served as director and past president of the Legal Rights Center. Schumeister also serves on the board of trustees of the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, in which he is part of the decision-making body whose recent grant recipients include more than 750 organizations, 400 college scholars, and 200 preschool families.
Chris Messerly, a partner who retired from the firm in 2022, began his career at Robins Kaplan in 1981 as a part-time messenger, weekend receptionist, and clerical aid. He then committed 35 years of his life to representing families and individuals who were injured in cases involving medical malpractice, personal injury, and product liability. He previously served as president of the Minnesota Association of Justice and president of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
This year’s Minnesota ICON award honorees will be celebrated at an event at The Lumber Exchange in downtown Minneapolis on Thursday, December 7.
