Overview

Tommy Du is a trial attorney with trial experience. His focus is on complex business and commercial litigation. He has represented a range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to individuals, in every aspect of litigation. His focus is on ensuring the right approach and right outcome for his clients.

He has tried a number of cases in arbitration and in federal and state courts, receiving favorable judgment for his clients. In trial, he has helped clients to obtain complete judgments in their favor and even significant recoveries for clients on their counterclaims. While recognizing that not every case is appropriate for trial, Tommy has also assisted clients in trademark disputes clients navigate through preliminary injunctions, including helping clients obtain complete relief on preliminary injunctions in claims involving the Lanham Act and unfair competition. Tommy’s background includes experience in a wide array of industries, including trademark, manufacturing, real estate, franchise, and retail.

Tommy previously clerked for the Honorable Otis D. Wright, II in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. He received his J.D. from the University of California, Irvine School of Law, and his B.A. in Political Science and Economics from the University of California, Irvine. He also currently serves on the Governing Council of the UCI Law Alumni Association.

Representative Matters

Represented minor members of a company that operated a national sporting event involving claims of breach of contract, fraud, and breach of fiduciary duty resulting in multi-million dollar settlement.

Prosecuted claims on behalf of a national franchisor for breach of contract, intentional interference, and unlawful business practices.

Defended national corporation of a home-furnishings company against claims for breach of contract, fraud, and defective workmanship.

Successfully obtained denial of request for preliminary injunction in claims involving the Lanham Act.

After a two-week trial, obtained judgment that resulted in a complete defense and multimillion dollar award on counterclaims in private arbitration involving contractual dispute over real property. 

Represented client in claims involving false and misleading advertisement. 

Represented the former senior management of a public corporation in a high-profile defamation action that resulted in a confidential settlement. (Prior to joining Robins Kaplan LLP)
