Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that Teresa Fariss McClain and Katie Bennett have been named to Minnesota Lawyer’s second annual Top Women in Law class, celebrating the outstanding achievements of women in Minnesota’s legal community. Honorees were selected based on the core principles of leadership, professionalism, accomplishment, and passion for making a difference.
Teresa Fariss McClain has devoted her career to advocating for individuals, first as a registered nurse and now as a partner seeking justice for those harmed by medical errors or medical negligence. She has secured numerous seven-figure settlements and verdicts for her clients. A leader in the legal community, Teresa serves as President of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, is a member of the Board of Governors for the Minnesota Association for Justice, and sits on the Advisory Board for Minnesota Women Lawyers. Teresa is also a former president of both Minnesota Women Lawyers and the Minnesota Women Lawyers Foundation.
Katie Bennett focuses her practice on federal civil rights along with catastrophic personal injury cases, taking on formidable opponents such as police departments, insurance companies, and other powerful entities. In 2023, she secured a record $12.2 million settlement for a client who suffered severe injuries, including arm amputations, while incarcerated at Scott County Jail – the largest recovery in Minnesota for Eighth and Fourteenth Amendment claims against a jail. Katie also secured settlements totaling $8.875 million for two clients following horrific grievances of use of excessive force by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.
Honorees will be celebrated at a gala event on Thursday, October 24 in Minneapolis.
