MINNEAPOLIS—May 1, 2017—Ronald Schutz, chair of the IP and Technology Litigation Group at Robins Kaplan LLP® and managing partner of the firm’s New York office, was given the Marquette University Opus College of Engineering Professional Achievement Award, which honors alumni for their personal achievements and support of the university, and is given only to those who exemplify the Marquette pillars of excellence, faith, leadership, and service.

Schutz attended Marquette University on an ROTC scholarship, where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in mechanical engineering. He went on to graduate with honors from the University of Minnesota Law School, where he was a member of the Law Review. After law school, he fulfilled his military obligation by serving four years in the United States Army JAG Corps stationed with the 7th Infantry Division. During this stint, Schutz tried 20 felony jury trials, including an unprecedented 50-year sentence as prosecutor in a rape case thought to be unwinnable.

Schutz is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has been recognized by many legal organizations and publications as one of the top lawyers in the country, including The National Law Journal which named him as one of the Top 10 Winning Litigators in the United States. He has won a nine-figure and multiple eight-figure jury verdicts, and has secured victories against behemoths such as GE, Apple, Sony, and Canon.

Schutz currently serves on several non-profit boards, including the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities, the Guthrie Theater, and Tee It Up for the Troops, an organization that raises funds for wounded veterans.
