Robins Kaplan has been retained as co-counsel on a pro bono basis to represent the State of Illinois in a lawsuit against the City of Chicago. The suit, filed by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Robins Kaplan, is seeking an enforceable consent decree to implement the numerous reforms outlined by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in its investigation of the Chicago Police Department (CPD).  The State of Illinois is seeking reforms that provide the support police officers need to implement safe and constitutional policing practices that will help rebuild trust between community residents and the CPD.

Robins Kaplan attorneys involved in the case are Munir R. Meghjee, Timothy Q. Purdon, Anne M. Lockner, Patrick M. Arenz, and Sharon Roberg-Perez.

State of Illinois v. City of Chicago, case no. 17-cv-6260, was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division on August 29, 2017.
