Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that it has been selected as a finalist for Plaintiff Law Firm of the Year in The National Law Journal’s 2024 Elite Trial Lawyers Awards.

Additionally, Robert Bennett has been honored with The National Law Journal’s Lifetime Achievement Award. This award recognizes trial attorneys who have demonstrated excellence over their entire career.

Bennett, a partner in the firm’s Civil Rights and Police Misconduct Group, is known for taking high-profile cases, shedding light on injustice, and prompting change. His efforts have been instrumental in sparking a nationwide reassessment of law enforcement policies, procedures, and conduct. He has won multimillion-dollar verdicts and settlements with regularity over the span of four decades.

Last year, Bennett led the firm’s civil rights team in securing settlements totaling $8.875 million with the City of Minneapolis in two 2017 police misconduct cases involving Derek Chauvin and multiple other police officers. He also helped secure a landmark $12.2 million settlement on behalf of a client who suffered severe and permanent injuries due to the deliberate indifference of county personnel while detained at Scott County Jail in Shakopee, Minnesota. The settlement is believed to be the largest amount of its kind in Minnesota to date.

This year’s finalists and winners will be recognized at the Elite Trial Lawyers award ceremony in New York City on July 11.
