Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that the firm has earned a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s (HRCF) 2025 Corporate Equality Index, the nation’s leading benchmarking survey for LGBTQ+ workplace equality. With this distinction, Robins Kaplan joins 765 U.S. businesses recognized with HRCF’s Equality 100 Award as Leaders in LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion.
Each year, the Corporate Equality Index evaluates corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality, including non-discrimination policies, equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families, fostering an inclusive culture, and corporate social responsibility.
Robins Kaplan is dedicated to advancing LGBTQ+ rights through a range of impactful initiatives. The firm regularly partners with OutFront Minnesota to offer pro bono legal clinics for transgender individuals seeking name changes. Since 2019, Robins Kaplan has assisted over 350 transgender clients in initiating the process for a gender-affirming name change. The firm also represents clients in significant pro bono cases involving LGBTQ+ rights. Notably, in February 2024, the firm secured a key victory for the Transformation Project, a nonprofit organization that provides suicide prevention and healthcare support for transgender individuals across South Dakota. This landmark case followed the state’s abrupt cancellation of the organization’s contract for a community health worker, resulting in a $300,000 settlement and a public apology from the state.
In addition to its pro bono work, the firm is committed to fostering ongoing education and dialogue around LGBTQ+ issues. During Pride Month, the LGBTQ+ Resource Group hosted an informative CLE program featuring attorney Jessie McGrath, who shared her experiences transitioning in the legal field, discussed the current legal and legislative challenges facing the LGBTQ+ community, and offered her perspective on the future intersection of LGBTQ+ issues and the law.
