Robins Kaplan LLP attorneys Eric Magnuson, and Steve Safranski recently helped edit and write the seventh edition of Minnesota CLE’s "Eighth Circuit Appellate Practice Manual," a reference book designed to serve as a comprehensive primary resource for attorneys representing clients in the Eighth Circuit.
Eric Magnuson served as one of the manual’s four editors, lending more than 35 years of legal experience to the publication. A former Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court, Eric now leads Robins Kaplan’s Appellate Advocacy and Guidance Group. Over the course of his career, both as an attorney and as a judge, Eric has handled hundreds of appeals involving a wide range of issues, including employment law, trust and probate matters, trade secrets, business contracts, corporate fraud, insurance law, and professional liability.
Steve Safranski authored a chapter titled "Post-Judgment Proceedings," covering a detailed look at rehearing by panel, rehearing en banc, the mandate process, and petitioning for a writ of certiorari. Steve focuses his practice on antitrust, unfair competition, and trade regulation, representing major national clients in the food and beverage, hospitality, retail, and telecommunications industries. He has authored numerous articles on appellate practice, and has represented business and individual clients in federal appellate courts around the country.
Katie Barrett Wiik co-authored Chapter Twelve, titled "Scope and Standards of Review," with Professor J. Lyn Entrikin of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Katie is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Section Council, and has represented clients before both state and federal courts of appeal. Prior to joining Robins Kaplan, Katie clerked for the Honorable Karen Nelson Moore of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
