Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that the firm has been shortlisted for Chambers USA’s “Law Firm of the Year” Award in the Native American Law category. Robins Kaplan is one of just five firms nationwide to be shortlisted for this prestigious award.
Headed by partners and former United States Attorneys Brendan Johnson (South Dakota) and Tim Purdon (North Dakota), Robins Kaplan’s American Indian Law and Policy Group represents Tribal clients in matters relating to the most significant issues facing Indian Country today: the National Tribal Opioid Litigation, Tribal sovereignty and treaty rights, Tribal lending, cannabis, and high-stakes energy extraction litigation in federal, state, and Tribal courts.
The group currently represents 30 Tribes in multidistrict litigation against major manufacturers and distributors of opioids, alleging devastating public-health effects on Tribal communities. The group has also made headlines in recent years for its representation of the Spirit Lake Nation and Standing Rock Sioux Tribe as they challenged North Dakota’s restrictive voter ID laws; the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in a case against the federal government to protect Tribal treaty rights to critical health care services; activist Nick Tilsen in the Land Back protest outside Mount Rushmore; the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation in their fight to defend their property rights to the riverbed of the Missouri River on the Fort Berthold Reservation; and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in opposing the proposed expansion of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
The winner of the “Law Firm of the Year” award will be announced at a virtual awards ceremony on May 27.
