Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that it has been ranked among the top 20 firms in the nation for Pro Bono work by The American Lawyer. The firm ranked 14th, up five spots from last year, in the magazine’s annual Pro Bono survey, which highlights the Am Law 200 firms with the deepest commitment to Pro Bono work over the past year.

“In these unusual times, there is an even greater need to ensure that those who need representation have access to it,” said Logan Drew, chair of Robins Kaplan’s Pro Bono Committee. “While the world is adapting to this new normal, we remain steadfastly committed to our mission of offering world-class representation to those who might not otherwise be able to get the help they need.”

Robins Kaplan has consistently ranked near the top of the Am Law 200 for Pro Bono work. Since 2008, more than six percent of the firm’s total billable hours have been contributed to Pro Bono legal services. In 2019, firm lawyers spent over 25,000 hours on Pro Bono projects, and more than 96 percent of firm lawyers devoted time to Pro Bono service.

Over the past year, the firm has handled a wide range of Pro Bono matters, including partnering with OutFront Minnesota to offer a transgender name change clinic to assist clients navigating the legal name change process. The firm also achieved favorable outcomes on behalf of Native American tribes in North Dakota in a lawsuit fighting North Dakota’s voter ID law, and on behalf of a number of asylum applicants fleeing persecution in their home countries.
