MINNEAPOLIS, August 26, 2015—Robins Kaplan has been named a top Pro Bono Firm of 2015, according to Law360

Law360's sixth annual pro bono series honors twenty firms that donated their time and resources to important causes, and overcame hurdles to secure major wins on behalf of their clients between June 1, 2014 and June 1, 2015.

The award is based on the significance of the cases handled by each firm, along with the results and total number of hours dedicated to pro bono work. Robins Kaplan attorneys averaged 107 pro bono hours, which is nearly 10 hours more per attorney than the collective average of all winning firms.

A few of Robins Kaplan’s most significant pro bono wins during the selected time period include:

  • a landmark ruling in March 2015 that the Affordable Healthcare Act protects transgender people from discrimination in accessing healthcare (Jakob T. Rumble v. Fairview Health Services and Emergency Physicians, P.A.);
  • a groundbreaking win for a Central American asylum client fleeting gang violence;
  • a home run for the first amendment rights in regards to a Clean Zone resolution (James McGuire and Robert Kolstad v. City of Minneapolis; Betsy Hodges, Mayor; and Janee Harteau, Chief of Police); and
  • upholding a child’s right to her established and nurturing environment (Hernandez v. Ibrahim).

"A core value of the firm is its longstanding commitment to justice in all segments of society," said Patrick Arenz, principal and prior chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee. "As part of this commitment, we work every day to bring access to justice to those who need it but are unable to pay for it."
