Robins Kaplan LLP is pleased to announce that attorneys Jake Holdreith and Christopher Larus have been named to Managing Intellectual Property’s 2020 shortlist for Outstanding Litigator: Minnesota. Only five attorneys from the state were recognized on this list. Additionally, Robins Kaplan was one of five firms shortlisted for the “Patent Contentious: Midwest” category.
The shortlists for the Managing IP Awards are based on research conducted for the 2020 edition of IP Stars, a guide to IP firms and practitioners worldwide. Shortlist candidates are chosen based on nominations sent by firms contacted for IP Stars research, as well as interview notes, survey submissions, and Managing Intellectual Property’s own independent research.
Jake Holdreith
Holdreith is a member of the firm’s executive board and a well-known strategist, trusted counselor and able courtroom lawyer. Over the course of his career, Holdreith has established himself as an innovative go-to patent litigator for generic pharmaceutical makers and technology companies alike. Holdreith has obtained multiple jury verdicts for patent owners ranging from $3 million to in excess of $34 million, as well as multiple defense judgments. In 2016, he represented Collegium in obtaining judgment of invalidity of three asserted patents that resulted in lifting a stay of FDA approval and permitted the launch of XTAMPZA, an abuse deterrent pain medication. In July 2018, he and the Robins Kaplan team secured a rare ruling of non-infringement of a proposed ANDA product in a Hatch-Waxman trial over the blockbuster kidney disease drug Sensipar®.
As a leading attorney in the IP arena, Holdreith has been recognized by numerous publications for his outstanding work. He is ranked in IAM1000: The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners, has been named Minneapolis’ Intellectual Property Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers, a Life Sciences Star by LMG Life Sciences, a Patent and Trademark Star by Managing Intellectual Property, and in 2017 was recognized as an Intellectual Property Trailblazer by The National Law Journal.
Christopher Larus
Larus is the chair of the firm’s National Intellectual Property and Technology Litigation Group. For more than 25 years, he has helped leading technology companies protect and monetize their intellectual property. He tries complex patent, trade secret, trademark, and copyright and licensing dispute cases in courts throughout the United States in both national and international arbitration. Larus has secured numerous first chair trial victories on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants. In 2017, Larus represented telecommunications equipment supplier PCT in a four week jury trial that led to entry of a permanent injunction prohibiting the sale of 60 separate infringing products. Larus was also trial counsel for Phillips Beverage Company in its successful defense of a $100 Million international arbitration brought by the French luxury goods maker LVMH.
Larus led the development of Robins Kaplan’s Pinpoint IP™ patent analytic software, which provides clients data-driven inputs to assist in identifying patent assets most likely to drive substantial value in licensing and enforcement. Larus has extensive experience as an arbitrator in both national and international arbitration. He serves as an appointed arbitrator in disputes before the American Arbitration Association (AAA), International Centre For Dispute Resolution (ICDR), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC).
Larus has previously been named an Intellectual Property Trailblazer by The National Law Journal. He has also been named to the IAM Strategy 300: The World’s Leading IP Strategists” list and to Managing Intellectual Property’s list of Patent Stars and Trademark Stars.
