In the summer of 2011, in an effort to address unacceptable rates of violent crime on the reservations in North Dakota, the North Dakota United States Attorney’s Office (USAOND) implemented its Anti-Violence Strategy for Tribal Communities.
The Anti-Violence Strategy (AVS) was the culmination of USAOND’s consultations with the North Dakota tribes and with federal, tribal, state, and local law enforcement agencies on the issue of violent crime on the reservations in North Dakota. The AVS sets forth a strategic framework for USAOND’s efforts to reduce violence in tribal communities.
