In honor of World Refugee Day on June 20, please join us for lunch and a panel discussion on the work of the Minnesota Freedom Fund, a nonprofit that raises funds to pay immigration bond and criminal bail. Since January 2017, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detentions have increased by 40 percent. A small portion of those detained are given the chance to leave ICE’s jails if they can pay bond. People who are released on bond can reunite with their families, resume work and save for their legal defense, meet more easily with their lawyers, or simply put their affairs in order before departure.

“Drew” (Former detainee released on bond through the Freedom Fund)

Our firm advocates on behalf of detained immigrants through the pro bono work of our attorneys and our commitment to the Detainee Bond Project, which we co-sponsor with the Binger Center for New Americans and Advocates for Human Rights. For this event, Minnesota Freedom Fund has set a goal of raising the statutory minimum amount for an immigration bond for one detainee, a total of $1,500. While donations are not expected, attendees may contribute in person or online. If you are giving online and would like your donation counted towards the event goal, please select “write a note” and enter “Robins Kaplan” when you set up your gift.
