Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. et al v. LG Electronics, Inc. et al., No. 3:14-cv-01012 (N.D. Cal)

Robins Kaplan LLP served as lead counsel for Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (“AMD”) in the enforcement of its computing and semiconductor patent portfolio against LG Electronics in the Northern District of California. The firm reached a confidential settlement against LG in October 2017, after claim construction and prior to summary judgment.

AMD asserted infringement of nine patents covering a wide array of semiconductor and computer-based technologies critical to today’s high-end consumer electronics products, including patents claiming pioneering inventions in USB, GPU, thermal management, and graphics-related technologies. The case involved more than 800 accused products, ranging from televisions to smartphones, Blu-ray players, projectors, and smart appliances.

Robins Kaplan also coordinated efforts among co-counsel in the ITC and PTAB. After Robins Kaplan’s successful appeal to the Federal Circuit of certain IPR results, eight of nine patents asserted against LG survived LG’s IPR challenges.
