Steve Schumeister Honored at Law Day Testimonial Dinner
May 5, 2016
Minneapolis (May 5, 2016) - Steven A. Schumeister, Managing Partner of Robins Kaplan LLP, was recently honored at the 35th Annual Law Day Testimonial Dinner. Co-sponsored by the Fund for Legal Aid and Hennepin County Bar Association, the Law Day Dinner raises funds for Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid and recognizes the efforts of the lawyers and donors who make the organization’s work possible.
Steve’s recognition as the 2016 honoree stems from his longstanding dedication to community service. He has served on the board of The Fund for Legal Aid and on the Fund’s Executive Committee for many years, and was Board Chair from 2006 to 2008.
Steve’s dedication to community service is reflected in Robins Kaplan’s contributions. The firm annually donates in excess of The Fund’s goal of $300 per lawyer, and many partners donate individually as well. For the Associates’ Campaign, the firm has exceeded all other firms over the past ten years in number of donors and monies raised. In 2015, 100% of the firm’s associates made gifts to the Campaign.
The firm and Mr. Schumeister are committed to rewriting the odds through pro bono representation. Robins Kaplan expects every lawyer in the firm to provide pro bono legal services to those in need; since 2008, more than 7% of the firm’s total attorney billable time has been contributed to pro bono causes.
In addition to his work within the firm and on The Fund’s Board, Mr. Schumeister has served on the board and is the past President of The Legal Rights Center, and serves on the board of Twin Cities Diversity in Practice. Mr. Schumeister is active with other charitable causes, and served as an advisory board member for Children’s Defense Fund Minnesota.
